With approximately $3.9 billion in sales, ScottsMiracle-Gro is the world’s largest marketer of branded consumer products for lawn and garden care. The Company’s brands are among the most recognized in the industry. The Scotts®, Miracle-Gro®, and Ortho® brands are market-leading in their categories.

The Challenge
ScottsMiracle-Gro launched a new eCommerce website for their Tomcat brand rodent control product line but found it did not rank for any brand-related keywords, a primary cause for disappointing online sales.
Scotts worked with several different agencies, but none could figure out why this was happening after running several analyses and audits.

The Solution
Acronym entered the scene as the new agency for ScottsMiracle-Gro. Led by our seasoned VP of SEO, our team of SEO strategists delved into an exhaustive analysis that revealed the presence of toxic links affecting the site's ranking. The team proposed a comprehensive strategy to tackle addressing the site’s link issues. The activation began with disavowing the toxic links and went on to deliver brand keywords ranking on the 2nd page. Even after this increase in brand keyword visibility, second page was still too low, so we kept working on assessing SERP factors. The team uncovered a main culprit- the client’s purchased domain used to be an adult website, which was damaging their SEO. Acronym swiftly devised a plan to tackle this issue, assisting ScottsMiracle-Gro in securing a new domain, developing a fresh content strategy, and implementing all 301 redirects and migration to the new domain.
Our efforts resulted in first position rankings for all branded keywords and unbranded keywords, such as the more broad “mousetrap,” and “humane mousetraps” keyword phrases.
