Meet Acronym’s Aleks Shklyar
SEO Strategist
When did you join Acronym?
I came on board in October of 2016.
What is your title at Acronym and which clients do you work for?
I am an SEO Strategist for New York-Presbyterian, GODIVA, and The Wallace Foundation.
What are your specific responsibilities?
I’m responsible for keeping my clients updated on everything that is happening with their organic traffic, what big things have occurred in the world of SEO recently, and work on improving their performance in search. Things like site audits, recommendations, content suggestions/creation, tracking of traffic/rankings are my priorities.
What do you consider the most interesting things you do at work?
The most interesting, and possibly the most challenging, thing in the field of search marketing is keeping up with big G (Google). Any new update (or even rumor of an update) can send shockwaves through the whole community. It is always important to take a step back, interpret the new information, and take appropriate actions. Sometimes that means you keep doing everything the same way. Sometimes it means you need to forget everything and start from square one. But it’s always fun to see the immediate reactions from the community.
What do you like to do best when you are not working?
I’m a big fan of movies and I try to watch as many as I can. I think the best cinematic work will always come from films (despite the spectacular TV series that have been coming out lately) because no one is trying to “milk” the story. Aside from that, I play roller hockey on 3 teams each season.
You are going on vacation to a place where there is no Internet connection. What book or magazine would you bring with you?
Since I like Malcolm Gladwell, I’d bring What the Dog Saw (it’s the only one I haven’t read so far). Although I’m critical of much of his anecdotal evidence upon which he draws his grandiose conclusions, the stories are really entertaining.
